€1,40How big is the problem?
According to FAO, close to 1.3 billion tonnes of food in general is lost or wasted every year
This amounts to approximately €900 billion of wasted or lost food
Around 820 million people go to bed hungry each day
Factories, wholesalers, and retail shops in the EU yearly waste approx. 35,2 million tonnes of food products, which is equal to 57, 2 billion euros.
If wasted food was a country it would be the 3rd largest producer of CO2, after US & China
The UN’s Sustainable Development goal aims to limit warming to 1.5C, drop CO2 emissions by 45% until 2030 and reach net zero around 2050
But food waste isn't just a humanitarian or social concern. When we waste food, we also waste energy and the fresh water it takes to grow, harvest, transport and package our food. Around 25% of all the fresh water used gets wasted every year and amounts to approximately 45 trillion gallons!
550,000Kg total food we've saved
We want to build a community of Rescue Warriors that are mindful and concerned about the environment and want to join us in our mission.
